Learning through Landscape
Eduscape – Landscape and climate change adaptation in education is an international project focusing on landscape. The project addresses societal challenges of today’s world such as climate change, biodiversity loss, social inclusion, cultural heritage and identity in education of children and youth through the broad topic of landscape.
About Eduscape Project
Being aware of global environmental challenges and the essential role of education, we decided to address both of the issues through the topic of landscape.
Landscape as a scene and a reflection of constant change. Landscape as an imprint of natural forces and human activity. Landscape as our home. Landscape that connects us.
The project aims to develop comprehensive educational materials for children aged 6-15 years and their teachers that would tackle a broad range of school subject areas with contemporary relevance. In this effort, landscape signifies not only physical surroundings but it is rather a platform, medium, source of information, inspiration but also affection that can be used with advantage in the educational process.
Why Landscape?
-
Landscape as an integrating concept that relates to a wide range of contemporary societal challenges.
-
Landscape as a medium to bring together and integrate different subject areas within the school curriculum in a stimulating and satisfying way.
-
Landscape as a functional framework in the context of modern educational methods such as competence-oriented education, problem-oriented teaching, place-based education, inquiry education etc. All these methods emphasize individualisation of educational processes and connection to real-life situations and personal involvement.
Eduscape Methodology
Eduscape Methodology elaborated layout for the general topic of landscape in education related to the societal challenges of today's world on the one side and school curriculum on the other, so that it fills in the gaps, links individual subjects and supports future-oriented curricula. The Methodology sets the basic road map of the learning through landscape approach.
Eduscape Educational Materials for Teachers
Instructional ready to-use toolkits connected to the specified educational units will be developed for teachers of primary school children. Materials will be focused on two different age groups (6–10 and 11–15 years of age) as needs of teachers working with these two age groups differ. The goal both for teachers and pupils is to walk the path from conceptualizing landscape, perceiving it, analyzing it, to shaping and (re)- localizing landscape.
Eduscape Educational Materials For Children
Based on the Eduscape Methodology, specific educational/learning materials will be produced and grouped in educational units adjusted to different age groups of children. Process based learning process will lead the children from gaining practical and theoretical information while mapping and analyzing directly in their close environment to defying the problems and tasks as well as designing and making solutions. Learning materials can be used by children/pupils (and their educators) in both formal and informal education.
Eduscape Digital Platform
The Eduscape digital platform as an OER will enable sharing of structured educational materials to teachers and educational centers and to children and their parents. Interactive form of the platform will enable users to engage in several virtual activities such as taking a short quiz directly on the web page to gain important feedback on their earned knowledge. In addition, the platform will contain a video record of multiplier events and training seminars so that future users of the platform would have access to additional outputs and gain a video guide on how to use the OER.
Review Of Literature, Media And Resources
The summary of the state of research and development in terms of publications, existing approaches, research initiatives, studies, projects, media, illustrations, photos, videos of existing study cases, practical examples, etc. related to and relevant to the project’s overall topics. These will be analyzed and sorted into a comprehensive database that will be made available to all interested users as an additional source of references online and as a downloadable pdf.
